Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in partnership with The City of Markham and The Regional Municipality of York, is preparing to implement large-scale erosion restoration works within German Mills Settlers Park, located southwest of John Street and Don Mills Road in the City of Markham.
The objective of the project is to protect municipal and Regional sanitary sewer infrastructure, and public safety, through remedial and major maintenance erosion control works along a section of German Mills Creek and an adjacent drainage channel.
The scope of work for Phase 1 generally includes constructing an energy dissipator for the existing storm sewer outfall below John Street, and installing natural stone and native plants along the banks of the discharge channel to control erosion. River stone will also be placed over an exposed sanitary sewer encasement in German Mills Creek as interim erosion protection until a permanent solution can be developed as part of the Phase 2 works.
Work is estimated to commence the week of June 10, 2013 pending receipt of the required approvals, and is anticipated to be approximately four (4) weeks in duration, excluding final site restoration which will be completed as weather conditions permit.
During periods of active construction there will be intermittent trail closures to accommodate construction equipment and the delivery of materials from John Street to the site. Although the construction limits will be clearly delineated with safety fencing and signage, we ask the public to exercise caution and stay clear of the work area while the repairs are underway.
