Great community success: Markham Council unanimously supported our Greenspace and killed the aerobic project

Congratulations!

On June 26, Markham Council voted Councillor Shore’s motion to stop bioreactor project.

The outcome of the vote for the motion was UNBELIEVABLE – ALL 12 councillors in favour of Councillor Shore’s motion to kill the project  with only the Mayor voting against it.   There were a couple of small amendments and there will likely be a meeting in the fall for the city to report back on three points related to leachate recovery, modernization of the gas monitoring system and changing title of the site.  We had over 100 residents filling the chambers and  tremendous support of the community!

Many Councillors admitted that they were impressed how unanimous, enthusiastic and organized our community was and this certainly influenced their decision.

We thank everyone who helped save our park and prove that together we are strong!

SPRA President

That is awesome news! What a great way to start the day! We have lived in this community since 1989, and have always enjoyed walking through Settler’s Park. Thanks to the “team” for your dedication and passion for the cause.

We are absolutely thrilled with the results of yesterday’s council vote and want to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for making it happen. It is a pleasure and honour to be part of this wonderful Residents’ Association. We are glad we were able to contribute in some small measure to the preservation of our magical green space!
